I was driving home from work last night listening to a random mixtape and "Going To Town" by the Afghan Whigs came on. So i figured it would be a good idea to do a little write up on them. After all, I was a huge fan of theirs back in the day. There was just something about them. Maybe it was how raw the lyrics were. Maybe it was just how soulful they were. Whatever it was struck a cord with me. After the jump, check out a few videos from one of the most underrated bands of the 90's.
This is the video for "Gentleman", a song of their major label debut of the same name. This was the first single and I remember MTV playing it a little bit.
I absolutely LOVED this album. It became a bit of an obsession with me. Here's another video from that album for "Debonair".
Next they released Black Love. Oh, damn is this album great. Very dark, but so much soul. Check out the Whigs performing "Honkey's Ladder" on Conan O'Brian.
Got room for one more? Here's Greg Dulli and the boys doing "Blame, Etc" from MTV's 120 Minutes. Remember that show? Remember when MTV played videos?
Their last album was called 1965. They did a video for a song called "Somethin' Hot". After that they broke up. I can say they were original. I haven't heard a band that sounds anything like them. Hope you enjoyed it. And it you don't know, now you know.
